welcome to the never-ending freestyle

Char Velasco is a proud alumni of UC Riverside and graduate of UC Santa Barbara’s English Department.

During her time as a Gaucho, Char researched Filipino-American invisibility within American history and literature to understand her roots as a first-generation Filipina American and unpack the often-forgotten impact and history of Filipinos in California.

Drawing from a diverse professional background, Char utilizes her skills in creative media and writing to work for companies like NBC Bay Area and RAPP SF. Beyond her professional endeavors, she is a published fiction writer, committed to amplifying narratives that bring to light the overlooked stories of marginalized communities.

Born and raised in Sacramento, Char currently works as the Program Assistant for California Coverage & Health Initiatives (CCHI) in her hometown and dedicates herself to advocacy for California’s most vulnerable populations.
