news writing: tupperware out of business

As an Assignment Desk Intern for NBC Bay Area, I’ve also been introduced to broadcast and news writing. Below is an original NBC Bay Area script that aired on television and is referenced in the article at the bottom of the page. The article was published in April, and it details Tupperware’s possible bankruptcy and financial hardships earlier in the year. I was tasked to re-write the script through my own lens, which is the final product.

[ORIGINAL]

THE COMPANY, "TUPPERWARE" IS IN SOME DEEP FINANCIAL WATER.

AND IT COULD GO OUT OF BUSINESS.

"TUPPERWARE" SAID IT COULD DEFAULT IF IT'S LENDERS ASK FOR REPAYMENT.

THE COMPANY HAS BEEN AROUND FOR OVER 80 YEARS.

AND THIS YEAR IT REPORTED IT LOST ALMOST 30-MILLION DOLLARS BECAUSE OF HIGH COSTS AND LOW SALES.

"TUPPERWARE" IS NOW LOOKING TO GET BACK ON TRACK... WITH NEW LINES OF CREDIT, NEW INVESTORS OR OTHER METHODS OF CUTTING COSTS.

[RE-WRITE]

AMERICA’S LEGENDARY FOOD STORAGE BRAND ANNOUNCED THAT IT COULD GO OUT OF BUSINESS EARLIER THIS WEEK.

THE FLORIDA-BASED COMPANY–TUPPERWARE– RELEASED A GOING-CONCERN NOTICE ON APRIL 7 THAT ANNOUNCED ITS SHAKY FINANCIAL POSITION.

TUPPERWARE’S STATEMENT WARNED THAT IT DOESN’T HAVE THE FINANCES TO PAY ITS LENDERS–THOSE RESPONSIBLE FOR PROTECTING THE COMPANY’S MAIN LINE OF CREDIT.

FOUNDED IN THE 1940s, TUPPERWARE STILL MAKES MORE THAN $1 BILLION IN QUARTERLY GLOBAL SALES. BUT IN THE RECENT QUARTER, THE COMPANY LOST $28.4 MILLION DUE TO INFLATION.

THE STATEMENT REASSURES THE PUBLIC THAT THE COMPANY WILL CONTINUE TO DO EVERYTHING IN ITS POWER TO CONTINUE BUSINESS OPERATIONS.
